We depart South Yorkshire by coach on Friday morning and travel into the beautiful Yorkshire Dales for a late morning and lunchtime stop in the picturesque market town of Skipton.
Known as the “Gateway to the Dales”, Skipton is one of Yorkshire’s most popular market towns, filled with cobbled streets, independent shops, welcoming cafés, and traditional pubs. Why not enjoy a stroll along the Leeds & Liverpool Canal, browse the market stalls, or visit the impressive medieval Skipton Castle, one of the best-preserved castles in England.
Lunch is not included, giving you the freedom to choose from the many cafés, tearooms, and restaurants in the town centre.
In the afternoon we continue to the elegant spa town of Harrogate and check in to the historic Old Swan Hotel. Famous for its connection to Agatha Christie, this beautiful hotel combines Victorian charm with modern comfort in an ideal central location.
The remainder of the afternoon is free for you to explore Harrogate at leisure. You may wish to visit the famous Bettys Tea Rooms, stroll through the beautiful Valley Gardens, browse the stylish boutiques, or relax in one of the town’s many cafés and bars.
This evening we enjoy dinner together at the hotel followed by a fun and friendly quiz night — the perfect opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers and make new friends.
After breakfast we head first to the delightful riverside town of Knaresborough.
Perched dramatically above the River Nidd, Knaresborough is one of Yorkshire’s prettiest market towns. Explore the historic castle ruins, enjoy the spectacular viaduct views, wander through the charming streets, or take a riverside walk beside the famous rowing boats. You may also wish to visit Mother Shipton’s Cave, England’s oldest visitor attraction and home to the legendary Yorkshire prophetess.
We then continue to the historic city of York, one of England’s most fascinating and beautiful cities.
With its ancient city walls, cobbled lanes, Roman history, and magnificent York Minster, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Wander through the famous Shambles, explore the many independent shops and tearooms, or visit attractions such as the Jorvik Viking Centre, the National Railway Museum, Clifford’s Tower, or York Castle Museum.
York also offers excellent shopping, from designer stores to traditional Yorkshire gift shops, along with plenty of cafés, pubs, and restaurants for lunch and refreshments.
After a full day exploring, we return to Harrogate for our evening meal at the hotel.
Following a leisurely breakfast, we check out of the hotel and begin our journey home, stopping in Leeds for free time and lunch.
Leeds is one of the UK’s top shopping destinations, blending grand Victorian architecture with modern shopping centres and stylish arcades. Browse the elegant Victoria Quarter, visit the historic Corn Exchange, or explore the wide range of high street stores, boutiques, cafés, and restaurants.
Lunch is not included, allowing you to choose from the city’s many dining options before we continue our return journey.
